The purpose of this study is to assess whether a cycle ergometer warming up infl uences on vertical jump performance, heart rate and reaction time. To do this, we used a longitudinal design with pre-post measures involving 14 male athletes (22.7 years ± 3.30, 178.8 ± 3.93 cm, 75.33 ± 6.89 kg). Warming up consisted of a pedal cycle ergometer for 5 minutes at 80% of heart rate reserve followed by 5 minutes at 95% of it. A battery jump test and a test engine auditory sensory manual (TS) was performed, pre (PRE) and after warming up (POST): in this order we conducted a test of 5 free vertical jump (T1), vertical jump test repeated for 10 seconds (T2) repeated vertical jump test for 60 seconds (T3) and a test of reaction time to an auditory stimulus (TS), with a recovery of 3` between each one. Heart rate was also measured during each test and during recovery time. There was a signifi cant improvement (p = 0,001) on vertical jump height and fl ight time, contact time on the ground decreased and increased the maximum heart rate in Q1 after making nonspecifi c warming up cycle ergometer, while there was no signifi cant improvement in Q2 and in Q3 or motor sensory reaction times. This study concludes that two phases of 5` warming up cycle ergometer produces performance improvements on free vertical jump and in heart rate during it self, and can be pedaling included in the protocol of warming up in sports which do this type of action.
