AIS archery centre

(AIS Zentrum für Bogenschießen)

This new archery training facility is world class and will do wonders for the development of Australian archery. It's perfect for us to conduct national training camps. The reality is that to be internationally competitive, athletes must be provided with a high level of service. The AIS plays a vital role in Australia's international sporting success through the delivery of its world-class training facilities and support services. The Federal Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, officially opened the $1.25 million facility as part of the Federal Government's commitment to the future success of the AIS. 'The new world-class AIS archery facility is part of the Government's expansion of the Institute, which is widely regarded as the world's premier centre of sports excellence,' the Minister said. 'This outstanding facility accommodates an indoor and outdoor practice range across an all-weather surface, which will be equipped with cutting-edge performance-analysis technology to help archers fine tune their sharp shooting skills.' Mr Lee, along with former Australian archer Simon Fairweather and High Performance Manager Ron Pengelly, were instrumental in providing the wealth of expertise needed to ensure the new facility was designed to the highest standards. AIS Director Michael Scott said the development of the new training facility would enhance the performance and growth of the AIS Archery program into the 21st century. 'The AIS Archery program was established in 1997 and has already achieved significant results, with Simon Fairweather winning Australia's first-ever gold medal in archery at the Sydney Olympics.
