Effect of general and auxiliary conditioning on specific fitness of young pistol and rifle shooters

(Effekt allgemeiner und ergänzender Konditionierung auf die spezielle Fitness junger Pistolen- und Gewehrschützen)

The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of physical conditioning program comprising of general and auxiliary components on specific fitness of young shooters in various training phases and during detraining. Fourteen healthy (8 male and 6 female) competitive shooters, aged 13.1 to 18.2 years, were divided into control (n=7) and experimental (n=7) groups. Both groups followed routine training schedule with experimental group practicing additional physical conditioning program. Fitness level was assessed at pre-training, at the end of general phase, pre-competition phase and detraining phase. Six weeks intervention program caused no significant difference in physiological variables and in some of the fitness variables in both groups. However, there was significant (p<0.05) improvement in hyperextension hold, abdominal hold, core strength, balancing ability and aiming capacity in the experimental group. During the detraining phase there was significant (p<0.05) deterioration in abdominal hold, core strength, balance and aiming capacity in the experimental group
