This article outlines recommendations regarding equipment choices, common dangers and problems associated with equipment and uses specific examples of the types of resources and equipment used at various strength and conditioning complexes both in Australia and the US. The article outlines the design processes and considerations of setting up a facility, athlete-coach ratios, staff qualifications, operational requirements & guidelines and further examples of specific equipment used in high performance facilities within Australia currently. This article also discusses a basic overview regarding the Australian Sports Commission`s High Performance Strength & Conditioning Accreditation Program as set out by the Australian Institute of Sports National Sports Science Quality Assurance Program. The article outlines accreditation needed to set up a `Gold Standard` AIS approved facility, with particular reference to what types of equipment is required and the standards required. The article also provides a Practical Applications section detailing how to set up an AIS approved facility, outlining examples of the approximate cost of this equipment and how to design such a facility based on the research covered in writing this article.
