The effect of musical rhythm on the performance of rhythmic gymnastics

(Die Auswirkung des musikalischen Rhythmus auf die Leistung in der Rhythmischen Sportgymnastik)

Musical rhythm appears to be related to the level of technical proficiency in female rhythmic gymnasts. The purpose of this study was to examine which variables among coordination skills (musical rhythm and movement) and kinetic qualities (performance output) interact and affect RG performance. Sixty female novice students aged 17-19 years volunteered to participate in this study. The total sample was randomly separated into three groups (N1 = 21, N2 = 19 and N3 = 20). The first experimental group (N1) performed the rhythmic pacing guided by count off (numerical verbal direction by the same speaker at all times), while the second experimental group (N2) performed the rhythmic pacing guided by the Rosato rhythm. The control group (N3) performed the rhythmic pacing without guidance. According to the results, the duration of twelve (12) training sessions had a positive effect on the experimental group provided with information by the accompanying musical rhythm (N2). The other two groups could not produce the pacing at the set distance of 10 meters, nor could they do it within the set time of 10 seconds or the required number of paces. In conclusion, an external auditory stimulus can change the personal rhythm of pacing depending on the prototype of choice.
