Douleur de hanche fébrile chez un adolescent judoka
(Fieberhafter Hüftschmerz von jugendlichen Judoka)
Introduction: Piriformis syndrome is a frequent pathology in the athlete. Diagnostic delay is often observed.
Summary of the facts: A young man of 14 years old, a high-level judoka, presented a febrile right hip pain. Clinical examination coupled with imaging and biology revealed a Staphylococcus aureus pyomyositis of the piriformis muscle. This infection required a medical treatment only. The adolescent had to observe two-month rest period.
Conclusion: Repeated or high-kinetic trauma causes muscular pathologies specific to high-level athletes. A deep hematoma of the gluteal region may become superinfect and cause an abscess of the pyriform muscle.
