The effects of core training on punching performance in professional boxers.

This study aimed to investigate and identify if there was any impact on punching performance in elite boxers when trained using specific integrated core exercise modalities. Superior core strength and stability represent muscle symmetry around the thoracic, lumbar and hip area; which described as a muscular box. The muscular box enables the body to generate force that transfers to the opposing limbs, through a kinetic chain. By increasing the body's core strength and stability through resistance and proprioceptive training, there are improvements in athletic capability. Where boxers use dynamic and ballistic movements for striking performance; correct technique utilises the ground to potentiate force through the lower limbs, transferring it through the trunk before its released through the upper extremity of the striking hand.
